Preventing The Common Cold

The common cold is one of the most, well, common diseases that anyone will face. Although not usually dangerous, it can certainly be a nuisance and interfere with life. Thankfully, there are effective ways that you can prevent a cold.

One of the most simple measures you can take is simply to wash your hands regularly, as this will get rid of germs that you might have picked up from door handles or other places and objects. For that matter, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose too often during cold season, as this is how these germs often transmit into your body. On the other hand, blowing your nose regularly is good, as this is one way that your body rids itself of viruses or other unwanted foreign objects. Just make sure to blow your nose into a tissue so you don’t spread germs to other people!

Eating healthy also helps in cold prevention, as it keeps your body energized and helps your immune system. Avoiding contact with people who are sick is also an obvious preventative measure, though one that can be difficult at times. Still, if you are around sick people, washing your hands often and after any physical contact (such as shaking hands) should help in preventing any spread germs from affecting you. Taking vitamins can also help, and might be especially wise if you’re around sick people on a given day.

Although it is tempting to rest more, either as prevention or when you already have a cold, it is actually wiser in either circumstance to keep your normal sleep schedule as normal as people. Although sleep and rest are important, resting excessively will actually exacerbate the problem.

Armed with some tips and common sense measures, it should be a lot easier to avoid getting a cold. Make sure to call your doctor if you have more concerns.
